corporate volunteering

Daystar Foundation’s key corporate volunteering program is our Mentoring Mates program. It is a program designed for the busy executive as it only takes a few minutes a month to write to a Little Mate yet the effect on the young person is often profound.

Daystar Foundation engages a company to encourage their employees to volunteer to write to a student over a 12-month period. There must be around 30 volunteers so they can engage with an entire class. They then write eight letters to each other through the school year, culminating in a face-to-face meeting at a Christmas party.

"Daystar Foundation has operated MENTORING MATES for more than 15 years positively impacting the lives of more than 12,000 students and corporate volunteers"

To protect the integrity of the program, and intervene where sensitive information is shared, all letters are vetted by the company coordinators, the class teachers and Daystar Foundation staff.

The mentoring aspect of the program cannot be underestimated in its capacity to transform young people and build aspirations for the future.
